Developers at Big Time Gaming have catered to nostalgic older gamblers and young video slots fans alike with Lucky Streak. The game is designed to look and play like an old-fashioned fruit machine, a device carried through to the layout of the playing interface and the symbols on the reels. Nevertheless, the bonus features are equal to most other modern video slots games, combining an old school playing interface with up-to-date payouts.
Unsurprisingly, given its retro aesthetic, Lucky Streak displays only three rows of symbols, although there are five reels and 20 bet lines. All 20 lines must be played, but with the minimum per line bet of 0.01, they can be covered by a 0.20 bet (according to the currency being played), for a potential 10,000X return on a win.
Lucky Streak Uses Vintage Symbols
In keeping with its traditional feel, Lucky Streak uses vintage fruit-machine icons, rendered in simple graphics and bold, solid colours. There are cherries, lemons, oranges, plums, bells, pears, grapes, melons and bars. The double- and triple-bar icons are the most rewarding; five of either on a bet line will result in a win of 750X the line bet.
The Lucky Streak icon serves as the scatter symbol. Because it is based on a mechanical fruit machine, Lucky Streak has no wild symbol in normal play, but the two different bonus features offer ways to turn ordinary wins into much bigger ones. Once again, although the play and rewards are 21st-Century, the graphics involved in the bonus features are designed to look several decades older.
Two Bonus Features
A Lucky Streak Free Spins Bonus is triggered by three or more scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the reels. A flashing trail lights up, and the player must press “stop” to halt the flashing light. Where the light stops determines how many free spins the player gets. A horseshoe icon is also added to the reels, to serve as a wild, and any wins during free spins are increased by a 3X multiplier. If a horseshoe forms part of a winning combination on any bet line, the multiplier increases.
In the second bonus feature, Lucky Spin’s Trail Bonus builds throughout normal play. The trail to the right of the screen lights up step by step, as certain symbols come up on the reels (including the low win icons). Once the player has scored enough symbols to reach a multiplier step on the trail, any win on that spin is increased by the multiplier value. A player who progresses all the way up the steps to the Cash Stoppa light triggers a new bonus phase. Another flashing trail lights up on the left, and the player must again hit “stop” to determine the next multiplier value and one of three options: Advance, Repeat or Collect. Advance moves the player up the trail to a higher multiplier value, Repeat replays the feature and Collect pays the player out the current prize and the bonus feature stops, with play reverting to normal mode. The highest Cash Stoppa bonus available is a 10,000X multiplier on the value of a winning bet line.
